3 Tab shingles

The 3 tab shingles offer a classic look and are the industry standard. These traditional shingles are 36” long and are divided into three 12″ tabs with a split between each tab. Asphalt shingles are composed of a base layer of glass fiber mat, asphalt and mineral fillers, and colored ceramic granules are used as the surface material.

Most fiberglass shingles come with a Class A fire resistance rating. Many of the shingle manufacturers offer algae resistant shingles which use a zinc or copper coating to reduce algae growth. The traditional look of the 3 tab shingles are very popular, however the more dimensional architectural and designer shingles have been increasing in popularity.

Architectural Shingles

The architectural shingle consists of the same material as the three tab shingle, but has two layers, which are bonded with an asphalt sealant. Architectural shingles are heavier and more durable than the traditional 3 tab shingles. Because of the heavier construction they provide a much better wind resistance and carry longer manufacturer’s warranties. The variance of color and definition of the shingle creates an interesting and three dimensional appearance, similar to wood shakes. These popular shingles can enhance the look of any commercial building.

Designer Shingles

Designer shingles are multi layer, high end, dimensional shingles that come in a unique variety of styles. These high quality shingles offer dramatic appearances and are designed to imitate the more expensive roof systems such as slate, cedar shake, and tile. The designer shingles are heavier weight shingles with deeper shadow lines, and richer texture.
